From the tea rows
to the bridge lights
Saturday 28 April 2012, the first of three days on a trip to Namhae. In the afternoon we walked between the rows of the Daehan Dawon tea plantation in Boseong; in the evening we crossed Namhae Bridge and, from the shore at Noryang, watched the sun go down and the bridge light up.

We set out in the morning and reached Boseong at about two in the afternoon. Each with a green-tea ice cream in hand, we walked into an avenue of tall cedars. The sky over Boseong was cloudless that day.
Before the ice cream melts
The way up to the tea fields ran through the shade of straight-grown cedars, the light coming through the trunks in patches on the dirt path. We took one picture of each other before the ice cream could melt.

Curves at the top of the steps
Where the cedars end, timber steps climb the slope, and from the top you see the rows of tea wrapping round the hillside in one view. We went up just after two and spent forty-odd minutes walking up and down the paths between the rows, taking pictures, and near the top we squeezed our faces together for a few selfies.

At about three we came down, had tea from small cups, and left Boseong.
The sun behind the red towers
From Boseong we stopped at Beolgyo around half past four for a plate of cockles, and a little after six we crossed Namhae Bridge, a suspension bridge with its cables slung between red towers. By the time we reached the shore at Noryang on the far side, the sun was going down behind the bridge.

When the bridge lights up
Around eight we went back down to the shore at Noryang. Lights now ran along the towers and cables of Namhae Bridge, and long streaks of red and blue spread across the water. Right beside us a turtle ship, lit from end to end, was moored at the quay.
