Kkotji, until the sun goes down
Sunday, 5 August 2012, the first day of a four-day summer holiday. In the afternoon we stopped for a while on a red cycle path along Cheonsuman-ro, reached Kkotji Beach, took a yellow tube into the water, and stayed until the sun went down beside the two rocks off the beach.
A pause on the red cycle path
On the way to Kkotji, a cycle path painted red ran straight beside a waterside railing along Cheonsuman-ro. The sky was a deep blue, and beyond the path wide water and low ridges went on and on.
One of us set up a tripod on the path. We stood side by side next to the white bicycle marking, and in a blue floral dress one of us stood by the railing. We were there for less than ten minutes.

A red hat and a straw hat
When we reached Kkotji Beach the sun was still high. One of us wore a red hat, the other a wide-brimmed straw hat. Beyond the railing of the beach deck, two rocks stood side by side in the sea: the Halmi and Harabi rocks, the grandmother and grandfather.
With the sun in the sky above the rocks, every ripple flashed. The one in the straw hat stood at the railing in front of them. A few hours later, the sun would go down beside these same two rocks.

One yellow tube
We changed and dragged a yellow tube into the sea, the words “Water-play friend Miti” printed in big letters on its side. We kept photographing each other, even in the water. The straw hat stayed on, even in the sea.

Down beside the two rocks
At around half past seven the sun hung red near the horizon, to the right of the two rocks. The rocks turned into black silhouettes and the water took on the sky, pale pink mixed with grey. Along the grassy path toward the rocks and at the railing, a few people stood here and there.

By then we had finished in the water and changed. In a red striped dress, one of us stood on the path, and at about 7:35 the sun touched the horizon. After that the two of us held hands at the railing facing the rocks.

A day that began under a midday blue sky and ended watching the sun go down beside the same two rocks.
