The night before
the full moon
Three months without going far: from a Sunday in April with freesias on the table to the moon over a rooftop on the night of 3 June.

2012. 4. 1 – 6. 23
1 April – 23 June 2012
Yeongtong → April windows → May shaved ice
→ the rooftop moon → Baekhyeon-dong, Pangyo → Dongtan
In the spring of 2012 we went out on Sunday afternoons more often than we packed a bag: a café with flowers on the table, a wall of glass, a path where every tree turned green at once, and a rooftop on the first Sunday night of June.
The moon must have filled and emptied several times in those three months. The one we looked up at was a single night short of full.
A Sunday with
freesias on the table
Sunday afternoon, 1 April, a small café in Yeongtong, Suwon. Yellow freesias stood in a glass bottle on the table; the flowers had noticed spring before we did.
A week later, Sunday lunch at a table against a wall of glass. At half past five that evening, white blossoms had arrived on branches that had no leaves yet.

오후An afternoon
gone green
Sunday, 6 May, a walk where every tree had gone a deep green. After a loop we went into a café: one bowl of green-tea shaved ice and the book we were reading.
A May afternoon needed nothing more.

The moon,
a night short of full
Sunday night, 3 June, on the rooftop terrace of an Angel-in-us café. Apartment lights ran along beyond the rail, and above them hung an almost round moon. Full moon was the next day, 4 June.
From 8:46 to 9:04. In that time the moon barely moved, and neither did we.

A paper crane
and an afternoon in Dongtan
On Sunday night, 10 June, at Caffé Bene, Ethan folded a paper crane. Monday evening the 18th was the café street of Baekhyeon-dong, Pangyo; on Saturday the 23rd we stayed in a café in Dongtan from around lunchtime, then went out to Dongtan Central Park late in the afternoon.
That was how spring tipped into early summer. The longer the days got, the longer we stayed in our seats.

On 23 June the sun didn’t set until after half past seven.
It was a long afternoon.
It was a spring that didn’t go far.
At its end was a moon one night short of full.
