While the sea
changes colour

From a grey afternoon to a blue dawn, by the same sea.
Afternoon · grey

An afternoon when sky and sea were the same grey.
Only the surf broke white across the sand.

Evening · blue

The window turns blue first.

After sunset the room goes dark and only the window stays blue. Past the railing, a white line of surf is still visible.

Night · sparks

Drawing with light on the sand.

On the night beach, we drew circles with a hand-held sparkler. Leave the shutter open long enough and every sweep of the hand stays as a line of light.

Dawn in Jeongdongjin · blue

Jeongdongjin early the next morning. The ship-shaped Sun Cruise stood on the headland, and people had set up tripods on the beach. The clouds were thick, and for a while sea and sky stayed blue.

Morning · silver

From a little higher up.

Seen from above, light slipping through the clouds lays silver over the sea. On the sand, pines lean the same way.

Stay in one place,
and the sea changes colour again and again.
