무렵When the cups
turned red
We learned that autumn was ending from the cups before the calendar. A month of not going far.

2012. 11. 1 – 11. 30
1 – 30 November 2012
White cups → red cups
→ a Wednesday evening at Pho Mein, Jeongja
→ a Sunday in Yeongtong → the day before Yeongtong Station opened
October’s sea at Anmyeondo and the autumn leaves of Bundang Central Park and the Hoam Museum have their own stories. This one comes after: November. Weekday afternoons in Jeongja-dong, evenings in Yeongtong.
In November the sun went down a little after five. Each day we spent a little longer with something warm in our hands.
From white cups to red
Until 1 November the cups were white. On the 16th, in Jeongja-dong, the cup was red: the holiday cup Starbucks brings out around this time every year. That year it was the first news of winter.

Wednesday evening at Pho Mein, Jeongja
Pho Mein is a Vietnamese noodle chain that began in Jeongja-dong, Bundang, in 2006. The first shop, the Jeongja flagship, is on the ground floor of the Dongyang Jeongja Paragon building by the Jeongja café street: brick walls, tall glass, and the smell of spices that greets you at the door.
Wednesday 21 November, half past six. It was already night outside. We got over the middle of the week here. Locations and hours are on Pho Mein’s store page.

The last weekend of November. The street trees were holding on to their last leaves.
Sunday evening at a Starbucks in Yeongtong
Sunday 25 November, five o’clock, the hour when the glass wall turns blue. The book on the table was Alain de Botton’s Status Anxiety. Despite the title, it was an evening for sitting a long time.

Yeongtong was waiting for its subway then. Yeongtong Station opened six days later, on 1 December, when the Bundang Line was extended from Giheung to Mangpo; the opening ceremony was held the day before, 30 November, in Saetbyeol Park. Today it is Yeongtong Station on the Suin–Bundang Line.

Three days later, Wednesday night at half past nine, Yeongtong again. A night with exactly a month of the year left.

The last day of November. From tomorrow the subway would run to Yeongtong too.
A month of not going far. The sun set early, the cups turned red, the scarves got thicker.
