눈에서 안개까지,
첫 겨울Our first winter,
from snow to fog
결혼하고 처음 맞은 겨울은 분당에 쌓인 눈으로 시작해 설날 장수의 안개로 끝났다. 그 사이에 성탄 새벽의 오크밸리와 우산이 매달린 천장이 있었다.Our first winter married began with snow settling in Bundang and ended in the fog of Jangsu at Lunar New Year. In between came a Christmas small-hours at Oak Valley, and a ceiling hung with umbrellas.
정자동의 눈Snow in Jeongja-dong
12월 12일 오후, 분당 정자동에 눈이 쌓였다. 다음 날 저녁은 성남대로 변의 투썸플레이스. 1년 전 이맘때처럼 컵이 빨갛게 바뀌어 있었다.
On the afternoon of 12 December snow settled over Jeongja-dong in Bundang. The next evening, A Twosome Place on Seongnam-daero. As a year before, the cups had turned red for the season.
성탄 새벽의 오크밸리Oak Valley in the small hours of Christmas
크리스마스이브를 넘긴 새벽 1시 25분, 원주 오크밸리의 콘도 주차장. 1년 전 겨울에도 두 번 왔고, 새해를 맞은 곳이기도 하다. 그날 밤은 안개가 조명을 번지게 했다.
Twenty-five past one, Christmas Eve just behind us, in the condo car park at Oak Valley in Wonju. We had come here twice the winter before, and seen in the new year here too. That night the mist blurred every lamp.
렌즈에 비친 연말The year’s end in a mirrored lens
한 해의 마지막 일요일, 동탄. 거울처럼 비치는 고글 렌즈 너머로 매장 불빛이 둥글게 휘었다.
The last Sunday of the year, in Dongtan. In the mirrored lenses of a pair of ski goggles, the shop lights bent into curves.
우산이 매달린 천장A ceiling of umbrellas
새해 둘째 토요일, 친척들이 모인 저녁 자리. 한겨울에 올려다본 우산 천장이 잠깐 계절을 잊게 했다.
The second Saturday of the new year, an evening with the family gathered. Looking up at a ceiling of umbrellas in the middle of winter, we forgot the season for a moment.
안개 속의 설A Lunar New Year in fog
결혼하고 맞은 첫 설. 연휴 첫날 논산천안고속도로를 따라 내려가는 길은 안개에 잠겨 있었고, 오후 두 시 반 장수 산서면에 닿았을 때도 안개는 걷히지 않았다.
Our first Lunar New Year as a married couple. On the first day of the holiday the road south along the Nonsan–Cheonan Expressway was sunk in fog, and when we reached Sanseo-myeon in Jangsu at half past two it still had not lifted.
설날 아침의 들길The field path on New Year’s morning
설날 아침, 하늘이 파랗게 열렸다. 마른 풀 사이로 개울물이 흐르고, 소나무 숲에 볕이 들었다. 전날의 안개가 거짓말 같았다.
On New Year’s morning the sky opened up blue. A stream ran between the dry grasses and sun came into the pine wood. The previous day’s fog seemed hard to believe.
결혼한 지 154일째, 설날.
