강화의 서쪽 바다The second day of the year, on Ganghwa’s western shore
2015년 1월 2일 금요일 저녁부터 이튿날 오후까지. 강화도 남서쪽, 화도면 바닷가에서 보낸 하룻밤.From Friday evening, 2 January 2015, to the next afternoon: one night by the sea in Hwado-myeon, on the southwest coast of Ganghwa Island.

강화도 남쪽 해안을 따라 도는 해안남로에서도 화도면 구간은 바다가 서쪽으로 트여 있다. 1월의 해넘이는 다섯 시 반 무렵이고, 해가 진 뒤에도 한동안 섬들 위에 주황빛이 남는다.
Haean-namno follows the south coast of Ganghwa, and along the Hwado-myeon stretch the sea opens to the west. In January the sun sets around half past five, and for a while afterwards an orange band lingers over the islands.
저녁은 같은 길가의 카페에서. 연휴 끝자락의 바닷가는 조용했다.
Evening was spent in a café on the same coast road. At the tail end of the holidays, the seaside was quiet.
같은 창, 다른 바다The same window, a different sea
강화 남단은 넓은 갯벌로 이름난 해안이다. 겨울 아침의 바다는 전날 저녁보다 한결 옅은 색이었다.
The southern tip of Ganghwa is known for its wide tidal flats. On a winter morning the sea was far paler than it had been the evening before.
산채 한 상, 그리고 한 번 더 바다A table of mountain greens, and the sea once more
점심은 화도면 가능포로 근처 식당의 산채비빔밥. 오후 한 시 반에는 해안남로의 창가 자리에서 한 번 더 바다를 봤다.
Lunch was sanchae bibimbap at a restaurant near Ganeungpo-ro in Hwado-myeon. At half past one we sat by a window on Haean-namno and looked at the sea once more.
가는 길 강화대교나 초지대교로 섬에 들어가 남쪽 해안도로인 해안남로를 따라 서쪽으로 가면 화도면이다. 겨울 해넘이는 오후 다섯 시 반 전후.
Getting there Cross onto the island by Ganghwa Bridge or Choji Bridge and follow Haean-namno, the south coast road, west to Hwado-myeon. In winter the sun sets around 5:30 pm.
